Stan Tekiela presents

"Uncommon Facts About Common Birds"

Stan Tekiela

Wednesday, February 17th at 2 PM
at the Wabasso Community Center

This is a fun and entertaining talk presenting fascinating facts and tidbits about some of the birds that people love to hate along with some of the more common birds in our yard. Stan will challenge your preconceived ideas about some common birds such as the European Starling, the American Crow and much, much more. You will never look at these birds the same way again. This talk wraps up with a message of conservation and understanding.

Stan Tekiela is a naturalist, wildlife photographer, and writer. He is the originator of the popular state-specific field guides such as Birds of Minnesota Field Guide, Wildflowers of Minnesota, and Trees of Minnesota. Over the past three decades Stan has authored more than 130 field guides, nature appreciation books, and wildlife audio CDs for nearly every state in the nation, presenting many species of birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, trees, wildflowers, and cacti.

Winter Reading Program

Book Your Winter Getaway”, the annual winter reading program sponsored by the Plum Creek Library System and its member libraries, will begin January 2, and run through March 31, 2016.

The program, open to ages 18 and beyond, is held every year during the winter months, and rewards readers for doing what they love to do - read. Participation is simple: sign up at your local library, and pledge to read at least 12 books during the 3-month long program. Most readers will meet that goal and many will exceed that number. Most Plum Creek Library System libraries offer patrons who complete the challenge an incentive prize. In addition, libraries will be given recognition for various distinctions including the most new participants enrolled in the program and most books read throughout the three-month period.

Explore authors' entire works on Project Gutenberg.

Project Gutenberg

Want to have the entire works of William Shakespeare or Mark Twain in one file, and completely free?

One of the biggest benefits of ebooks is that they are convenient. One file can contain 5 thousand or 500 thousand words. Instead of downloading 50 separate books from one author, you can get most of their publications by clicking on a download button just once.

Our favorite source of free ebooks, Project Gutenberg, has on offer several files that include complete electronic publications of selected classic authors.
