Welcome to the Slayton Public Library

The Slayton Public Library was organized in 1940 by the Monday Study Club and was housed in two locations before moving to its present home on Slayton's main street. The library is a member of the Plum Creek Library System, a nine-county, 25 member federated library system.

In addition to more than 35,000 volumes, the Slayton Library has a collection of over 700 movies that can be checked out for a 1-week period. There is also a song book collection containing over 400 books and more than 14,000 unique, indexed song titles. The library also houses subscriptions to over 50 magazines and newspapers, as well as more than 850 audio books.

The library has an 8 station computer lab for public use during regular hours of operation, and is also equipped with wireles Internet service. The computer lab can be reserved for use by groups when the library is closed.

In addition to the computer lab, we also have a Cricut & Video Phone available.

The Library Book Club meets at 1:30 PM the 1st Thursday of the month. We also have teen book clubs, call or stop by for information.

Also available is the Community Room that can be reserved for meetings and other gatherings.

Come in for a visit and stay awhile!

Winter Reading 2018

Reading is Snow Much Fun, the annual winter reading program sponsored by the Plum Creek Library System and its member libraries, will begin January 1, and run through March 31, 2018. The program, open to ages 16 and beyond, is held every year during the winter months, and rewards readers for doing what they love to do: read.

Participation is easy: Simply sign up at your local library. Your Library will give you a punch card or reading log to record the number of books read. Then get set to read at least 12 books during the 3-month long program. Readers are encouraged to read as many titles as they choose, however in order for their punch card or reading log to be counted, a minimum of 12 books read is required. Titles may be in any format including audio books and e-books.

Most Plum Creek Library System libraries offer patrons a prize for completing the Winter Reading Program challenge and various incentives are available.

Make plans to stop at your library today, register for the Winter Reading Program, and get set to participate in the Winter Reading Program in January.

Getting Started Guide

eBooks MN

Ebooks Minnesota, an online ebook collection spearheaded by Minnesota’s libraries, is open to Minnesota readers. The collection is accessible online at EbooksMN.org and via free apps from iTunes, Google Play, and Kindle. There is no charge to libraries or individuals who wish to use the collection, and no username or password is required. Ebooks Minnesota is open to all readers within Minnesota’s borders.

No process is required to “check out” a book. Readers can access any book in the collection at any time regardless of how many other readers are also using that book. This feature makes the collection particularly useful for schools that may wish to assign a single book to an entire class or even an entire school. Likewise, community book clubs, no matter how large, can read books together without worrying about checkout limits or due dates.

The collection contains more than 2,000 books, including titles from these Minnesota publishers: ABDO, Lerner Publishing Group, Cherry Lake Publishing, University of Minnesota Press, Milkweed Press, and Coffeehouse Press. Nonfiction titles from Arcadia Publishing about Minnesota and its history are also included in the collection. A selection of popular titles that are in the public domain, such as "Dracula." and “Jane Eyre,” completes the collection.
